Weekly Announcements October 8th
1. This is the last weekend for our Norcard Fundraiser. Please return all orders and money to the office by Tuesday, October 13th. Thank you for your support!
2. We ask that you please do not bring dogs onto school property when dropping off and picking up your child(ren) from school. We also have a number of students who are afraid of dogs and although they can be tame and reliable pets at home, their behaviour can be unpredictable in a crowd. We appreciate your help in keeping our students safe!
3. Tomorrow is Blue Jays Spirit Day. The Blue Jays are Canada’s baseball team and are entering the Playoffs. Wear red, white and blue to support the Toronto Blue Jays playoff run.
4. We wanted to provide you with an update about job action being taken by teaching staff represented by the Elementary Federation of Ontario (ETFO) and Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) Support Staff, which includes secretaries, custodians and supervision monitors in schools as well as some central staff. Please see the board’s website www.wrdsb.ca for more details on the current status of labour negotiations. Schools are open and instructional programs continue to run. During his job action, however, parents/guardians may experience some delays in response when requesting access to the front door of the school via the safe entry buzzer system. We will allow for entry as soon as we are able. We ask for your patience and understanding in these instances. In an emergency, please call the school office at 519-578-3890.
5. We are still looking for Strong Start Volunteers! If you would be interested in helping with the Strong start Letters, Sounds and Words program, please contact the office. You would be required to attend a Strong Start Volunteer training session, after which you would work one on one with students once a week for 30 minutes, for a ten week session.
6. Our Smithson Breakfast Program is up and running. If you could volunteer with the Breakfast Program, as little or as much as your schedule allows, please contact the office 519-578-3890.
