Our Mission Statement

The mission of the Smithson School Council is to support the creation of a safe, positive learning environment that encourages all caregivers to assume a responsible and active role in educational programs and services offered. We will provide opportunities for the sharing or exchanging of knowledge, opinions, and ideas on topics which affect the entire school community.

Who we are

The Smithson School Council is an advisory group that is a vital part of this school’s activities, meeting at least four (4) times per year.

Role of the School Council

Through the active participation of parents or guardians, to improve student achievement and to share information with parents and the community, we want to help build a strong sense of community at our school, benefiting parents, the staff, the Principal and, most importantly, the students. It promotes communication and involvement in the school and a sense of pride and ownership.

Our first meeting of 2022-2023 was held September 13, 2022. At this time, we determined this year’s executive members:

  • Co-Chairs: Kim Davis and Karn Denkers
  • Treasurer: Mary Balan
  • Secretary: Annabelle Perston
  • Fundraising Reps: Vicki Folliott, Amy Stewart, Megan Perusits
  • Teacher Reps:  April Harper and Annabelle Perston
  • Social Media Moderator: Krista Sobel
  • Virtual Meeting Moderator: Vlad Levin
  • Community Member: Roxanne
  • Principal: Keri Reay

You are always welcome to join council meetings! Our meetings are currently held in-person from 6:30pm-7:30pm in the library, typically on the 3rd Tuesday of the month. A Google Meet link is provided for virtual participation as may be preferred. Keep an eye out on School Day for more information.  To reach out to our School Council, please send them an email: smi-schoolcouncil@wrdsb.ca
