Smithson Library

“Reading is a passport to countless adventures.”

Mary Pope Osborne

Welcome to Smithson’s Library, where we have the opportunity to learn new things, explore new ideas, meet new friends and travel to new places!

We are excited to announce that many of our classes will be bringing library books home this year! Books may be checked out for a period of 3 weeks and may be renewed twice if no one else has placed a hold on the book.  Please encourage your child(ren) to take good care of their books and to return them promptly.

While we all do our very best to keep our books safe, we understand that accidents can happen. In order to keep our books in their best shape, please do not attempt to repair books at home. I have special tools and tape to help restore our books. If a book becomes badly damaged or if a book is lost, there will be a small fee to help cover the replacement cost.  The WRDSB charges a flat fee of $5 for a paperback book and $10 for a hard cover.

Students can search our library holdings by visiting the WRDSB Library Learning Commons (LLC). The LLC also includes links to online encyclopedias, eBooks, research databases and streamed media. Log in from home or at school by using your Student Login. Watch this video to see how easy it is to use the Library Learning Commons!

If you have any questions, please reach out to your classroom teacher or to me directly at cara_schmidt@wrdsb.ca.

Looking forward to a great year of reading together!
