We are very excited to announce that we will still be participating in our annual Terry Fox Run this year. It will look a little bit different, but the spirit of the event will certainly be the same!

This year, we will be holding our run over two days – this will give students multiple opportunities to get outside and “run for Terry”. Terry ran 42 km a day for 143 days in a row (with only one day off for a break), so our two days is just a small way to honour a true Canadian hero.

Classes will go outside on a staggered schedule so that they do not cross cohorts, and their teachers will lead their run around the school grounds during their PE periods. Since students are unlikely going to be able to maintain social distancing during this activity, we will be asking them to keep their masks on. Staff are still brainstorming other ways to make this a bit more of a special event for our students.

On Friday, to celebrate both our 2nd day of the Terry Fox Run, but also to demonstrate our Smithson spirit, we ask that students wear their Smithson gear or Smithson colours (blue and white) – it would be great to see a sea of blue as each class participates throughout the day.

Finally, if you are interested in contributing to the annual fundraising for cancer research done through the Terry Fox Foundation, please consider going to our dedicated Smithson fundraising page.  Unfortunately we are not able to accept cash donations at this time.

We are looking forward to this event next week – we hope our students are too!
