Welcome to a 4th installment of “Return to School 2020” at Smithson.

First of all, I would like to extend a HUGE thank you to the parents / guardians / significant adults in our students lives.  It is absolutely apparent how much work you have done in preparing your children for a successful return to school. The entire staff are so, so impressed with how well the students are doing with wearing their masks, practicing proper hand hygiene and following all the new rules and protocols in place.  You have made our jobs so much easier by getting your child ready for Sept. 2020 in this way.

It is critical that children who are sick or display any of the symptoms of COVID stay home from school.  Please refer to this NEW WEBSITE  that is now available for school screening of students.

Just a few reminders / updates:

  • We have been informed by Public Health that the use of mask lanyards is NOT allowed.  If you have purchased these for your child, with the best of intentions, I am sorry to have to say that you will need to keep them at home.  Hanging your mask around your chin or on your chest will allow them to get dirty and then should not be put back on if this is the case.
  • Extended Day programs have begun – if your child is signed up for Extended Day tomorrow (Thursday), they are able to attend school for the full day (in their regular classroom for the school day), even if their last name does not start with M-Z.
  • ALL students, regardless of whether or not they are staying home, officially doing Distance Learning, or are at school, MUST have the necessary beginning of the year forms completed (media consent, responsible use procedures, concussion).  Please complete these forms ASAP – they can be found under the “Events” tab on School Day.

We thank you for your patience, understanding and kind words as we work together to get this year underway.  Your support is appreciated more than you know.

We look forward to having all of our students back at school for in-person learning on Friday!  To those of you participating in Distance Learning – we miss you, and hope for nothing but the best as you embark on your virtual learning journey over the next few days as well.

Take care, stay safe and be well.  🙂
