Happy New Year!

Hello everyone and Happy New Year! I hope that you all had a restful break and we’re able to spend much valuable time with family and friends. It’s always great to be back at Smithson School and share in the exciting daily learning with our staff and students. Our focus continues to be providing constructive, meaningful feedback to our students; feedback that will move our students forward in their learning and make them the best that they can be.

Here are a couple of brief updates:

  • -thanks so much to our parent /community volunteers Chris and Dan who have done an awesome job of getting our community ice rink up and running. It is available to our community members anyday after 4 pm and on week ends.
  • -continue to check School Day and our School Website for important messages around field trips, pizza orders, upcoming events (our dance on January 24)
  • -first term report cards will be coming home in February
  • -please fill out an withdrawal from school form if you plan on taking your child out of school for an extended vacation during instructional time. These are available at the office.
  • -the winter weather is quite unpredictable. Please check the Board website and listen to local news 570 a.m.. for any messaging around school and bus cancellations. Please remember that children should be coming to school prepared for outside play. This means being attired in winter boots, mitts, hats, coats and snow pants.
  • Kindergarten registration will occur in February-contact the school to set up an appointment
  • Our Breakfast Program runs each day from 8-8:30 a.m.. All are welcome. Forms available from the office.
  • Thank you to all of our Smithson volunteers. You are a tremendous asset to our school and we value you!

Wishing you all a wonderful 2014.
