- PD Day- Friday, February 26th. There will be no school for students on this day. In the morning
Teachers will be engaged in collaborative learning and in the afternoon, all staff will focus on health
and safety training.
- Each year, families with students entering JK – Grade 6 can express an interest in having
their child(ren) attend Before and After School Programs at their school. A minimum number
of pre-registrations are required to operate these programs. It is important for families to pre-
register by March 31 to determine if programs will be viable.
Families with children currently in grade 2 who are transitioning to grade 3 next year and
will require childcare, should select the Youth Development Program, operated by YWCA of
Kitchener – Waterloo on behalf of the WRDSB.
Confirmation of viability will be communicated in May.
3. Report Cards go home on Friday, February 19th
4. For the whole month of February we are going to focus on the “P” in Smithson PRIDE. Random Acts
of Politeness continues all month. If someone notices someone doing something
polite, they fill out a R.A.P. ticket, which will get posted on our front bulletin board!!
5. We are still accepting JK/SK registrations for September 2016. If you have a child, or know
of a child in our school catchment area who was born in 2011 or 2012, they are eligible to attend
JK or SK in September 2016. Parents should register ONLINE at www.wrdsb.ca to register
their child for Kindergarten. If your child is currently attending JK at a WRDSB school, there
is no need to register them again.
Once the online registration has been entered, parents will be invited to the school to complete the registration
process and validate the information submitted by the online registration. If you have any questions about this

6. Basketball Club for students in Grades 5 & 6 runs until March 11th on Tuesdays and Thursdays from
3:15-4:00.
7. The Lunch Box lunch calendar will be offering the following options for March.

Go to www.lunchboxorders.com to order these special lunches for your child. The
order deadline is Sunday for the following week’s order.
8. Popcorn and cookie sales continue every Thursday, at second break in the front foyer. Each bag of
popcorn or individually wrapped cookie will be sold for $1 each, with a 3 item purchase limit per
student. Proceeds go towards this year’s Grade 6 trip.
