7. Every year Smithson celebrates the season with a giving initiative. This year Mrs. Arnott’s Grade 2/3 and Mrs. Brisson’s Hearing Services classes are leading this project. After completing a survey of all students and staff in the school, it was decided that our initiative is “School Supplies for Refugees”. It is expected that 1500 refugees, including many school age children, will be settling in the K-W area and students want to make children’s school starts a positive experience. Between the dates of November 30 – December 15 we will be collecting school supplies to be put into kits for these children. We appreciate any items that can be donated, including backpacks, lunch bags, lunch containers, markers, pencils, pens, pencil cases, geometry sets, rulers, locks for lockers, and other items that would be suitable for a great, fresh start to school. We are proud of the caring hearts of our Smithson Lions and thank everyone for supporting this student-driven initiative.
