- Safety Concerns
With the arrival of cold weather comes the added congestion on the roads for parents that are dropping off/picking up their children from school. Please be respectful of our neighbours by not blocking driveways while you wait for your children. This only adds to the congestion on the streets and also poses a real danger as sightlines are blocked and people try to maneuver around stopped vehicles. Please obey all no parking/no stopping signs. Non-compliance with these signs could result in significant fines being issued.
We also ask that you obey our Belleview Avenue “Bus Only” driveway entrance. We have several buses dropping off and picking up students daily. In order that everyone remain safe during this process, we ask that you do not drive in through the Belleview Street driveway. It is also important that everyone responds to the directions of our bus supervision staff on duty during these times, for the safety of all our staff and students.
- Now that the colder weather has arrived, please make sure your child comes to school with appropriate outerwear for outside during both Nutrition Breaks.
In the event of School Closure due to Severe Weather, information will be posted on the WRDSB website, the school website and WRDSB social media feed. You can also listen to the following radio stations for bus cancellations and school closure information.

3. Ice Rink Volunteers Needed
Ice Rink Volunteers are needed to maintain our Smithson Community Ice Rink. Many families from our community enjoy the use of this rink during the winter months. Volunteers are needed to maintain the rink by flooding and snow clearing. If you have time to help with this task, please call the office at 519-578-3890
4. MacMillan’s Fundraiser
Coming Soon: School Council will be sending home details for the MacMillan’s Fundraiser. Delivery date for the MacMillan’s products will be December 18th. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go to support our Breakfast Program. Once again, please be reminded that parents are under no obligation to participate in fundraising. Some families may choose one fundraiser, some choose all, some choose to make a donation to the school. It is always your option to participate or not in any/all fundraisers.
5. Pizza Volunteers
Pizza Volunteers needed!! Smithson Public School Students love Pizza Day!! If you could help with pizza day orders starting in January, once or twice a month from 12:40-1:15, we could use your help! Pizza volunteers sort the pizza order and deliver to the classrooms. Schedule would be provided ahead. Please call the office at 519-578-3890, if you would like to be a pizza volunteer.
6. Picture Retake Day will be on Thursday, November 27th
If you would like your child’s school picture retaken please return their original photo package on retake day and their photo will be taken. Please call the office at 519-578-3890 to add your child’s name to our retake list. If you missed ordering school photos the first time, just send in the photo envelope with payment or order online. Again, please call the office to let us know that you would like your child’s photo taken. If you need a new photo order envelope, please contact the office.
7. Smithson Winter Bazaar – Saturday November 29th from 11am-3pm
